Peter Davenport - Probably the one person in current history that has
had the most impact in people's understanding of the reality of UFOs"

Peter Jennings gives UFOlogists a Hand
by Charlette LeFevre 2/16/05

³More than 80 million Americans believe the earth has been visited by extraterrestrials²
³More than 40 million Americans believe they have seen or know someone who has seen an unidentified flying object.²

Peter Jennings feels the answers to UFOs may be in these statistics, a subject for his upcoming ABC Special ³Seeing is Believing² to air Feb. 24th. A ground making special itself as this will be the first time the subject of UFOs has been taken on personally by a major network anchor. Jennings said ³This .is one of the most interesting subjects Iıve worked on² when he was taping for a Northwest Afternoon program in Seattle February 16th in front of a small audience.

Investigative Reporter

The show provided a format which highlighted Peter Jenningıs broadcast career starting from the age of nine, his notable interviews with foreign leaders and presidents, a clip of him stating tenaciously to the American public ³We are going to stay on the air until NASA has told us what it knows² and a clip of him holding a piece of the Berlin Wall. The program also commented on his recent trip to Iraq and his first interview with Bill Gates just that morning. The show gave him a chance to show himself, his witty humor behind his handsome smile and indeed that he can even blush when a female audience member called him ³hot, suave, elegant and awesome². Everyone agrees with applause which makes Peter turn even more red and smile. Yes, he is hot.
He is also inquiring and a bit of his drive might be indicative in his last special on the JFK Assassination. I believe Peter Jennings doesnıt want important information to be overlooked to leave future generations wondering why media didnıt responsibly ask the questions.

When asked why a UFO special, Peter Jennings stated he didnıt know as much about this subject until about a year ago when he started filming this special but ³as I keep telling people I work for the news division of ABC not the entertainment division and when 80 million people are interested in something, I wanted to investigate.²

On the show a sneak peek of his special was previewed which showed UFO photos, a sighting case involving police and statements from abductees. I was able to ask Peter Jennings if he himself has had any personal sightings or experiences. Peter Jennings related no but stated he raises an issue in his program that if he did have a sighting who would he call? Who would he tell? He urgently pointed out the government would say they are not in the business of UFOs and dismiss the call but might be referred to a man called Peter Davenport. Peter Jennings then excitedly announced Davenportıs presence in the audience. Jennings has been working on his special program and had previously contacted Peter Davenport, the Director of the National UFO Reporting Center which was founded in 1972 by retired Seattle firefighter Robert Gribble. Davenport stated the ABC special on UFOs may be a ³landmark program² and significant in the sense it may allow people to feel more comfortable to discuss this issue as he felt there was a certain degree of suppression of this subject.

First Responders

Peter Jennings mentioned ³ Because so many of the people we interviewed actually turned out to be the very kind of people who in this day and age - the first responders we rely on - airline pilots, both commercial and military, people who work in the police and I was very struck by the seriousness of the people who believed in this and talk about it. I was also struck and you see alot in the program how government failed, all the way from the 1940s when the first UFOs became an issue, how government failed to take this seriously.²

Jennings then stated Davenport at least may like that they took the issue seriously and the people involved in UFOlogy seriously. Without a doubt this is what every UFOlogist and interested person in UFOs has been dreaming about - serious recognition on the ³six-oıclock² news. Groundbreaking and relieving that this breakthrough has occurred in our lifetime. We can now sit our kids in front of the TV in the same way our parents and grandparents watched the moon landing and tell them they are watching something historical. But something else happened that should be known.

Peter Davenport, lower left sitting listens intently to Peter Jennings

The Handshake

When the film stopped rolling between segments, Peter Jennings unexpectedly got up from his chair, walked across the stage over to where Peter Davenport was sitting and respectfully shook Peter Davenportıs hand. Then he quickly sat down.

Wow.
I think something happened here.
Something monumental
A feeling that a wall between people and the media regarding UFOs that has been in place for years just shattered

I believe at that very moment of the handshake, UFOlogy was suddenly recognized by mainstream media and along with that to some degree the importance of sightings and experiences of millions of people was acknowleged.

I didnıt hear a chorus of angels or see a beam of light shine down from the heavens - it was after all a simple handshake but I would like to think that whatever prompted the handshake, with an exchange of kind words, there was a silent acknowlegement of respect for a fellow reporter, perhaps a common feeling of understanding of our humanity or even if you will an imagined cosmic cellular transfer of information. In any manner, I believe our understanding of asking the question if we are alone in the universe just got a helping hand.

DaVinci Code Lawsuit shows Author Dan Brown full of Crepe?
By Charlette LeFevre Director, Seattle Museum of the Mysteries
3/3/06

Everybody in the world by now has either read or seen (unless your living in a monastery or an Opus Dei sanctuary) Dan Brownıs book DaVinci Code and the upcoming movie this year by Ron Howard staring Tom Hanks and Audrey Tatou. People have also likely heard the recent International news that DaVinci Code author Dan Brown is being sued by Lewis Perdue and authors Baigent and Leigh of ³Holy Blood, Holy Grail² for lifting intellectual property and similarities. Indeed the court evidence is talking about Dan Brownıs copy of ³Holy Blood, Holy Grail² highlighted by his wife as crucial evidence. The case which is rocking the literary world may hold up the release of the movie DaVinci Code in what is believed to be this yearıs biggest multi-million dollar movie. Dan Brown also has other organizations hot under the collar including the Catholic church and Opus Dei making what appear to be veiled threats on their past website releases to Sony if they release the movie stating in a Feb. release, "Sony Pictures still had time to make changes". Make changes or what one wonders?

Perhaps they need not be so anxious because the public has already read this information twenty years ago when Holy Blood, Holy Grail and DaVinci Legacy came out. Yes! Twenty years! Donıt believe me? Grab a latte and croissant, pull up a chair and lets do a book comparison! Check out Lewis Perdue's website and you will see listed comparisons.
In book one the ³DaVinci Code² by Dan Brown published in 2003, The story starts with a quest of a scholar in ancient material partnering with a green eyed auburn haired heroine seeking secret documents that prove the divinity of a sacred female figure that will "shake the foundations of the Catholic Church.
In book two DaVinci Legacy by Lewis Perdue published twenty years earlier in 1983, The story starts with a quest of a scholar in ancient material partnering with a green eyed auburn haired heroine seeking secret documents that prove the divinity of a sacred female figure that will "shake the foundations" of the Catholic Church."

Ok, well you say to yourself this is a common theme, and all heroines have green eyes and auburn hair and seek documents that shake the Catholic Church. Ah... but wait!

In ³DaVinci Code²: The quest is launched by the murder of an art expert who is dying and the scholar is accused of the art expert's murder who writes his last message in his own blood providing a clue that leads to a painting painted on wood. But look! In the book ³DaVinci Legacy², the quest is launched by the murder of an art expert who is dying and who writes his last message in his own blood. The scholar is accused of the art expert's murder. In ³Daughter of God² by Lewis Perdue, pub. 2000, the clue provides a lead to a painting painted on wood.

Ok, ok, you say to yourself this is similar but that doesnıt make it plagiarism. The plot has just been reworked! But wait there is more! (mon dieu!)

In ³DaVinci Code²: The clue hidden in a master painting provides the Heroine with a gold ³key² to a safe deposit box in a Zurich Bank. The Safe Deposit box holds the master clue. In ³Daughter of God: The clue hidden in a master painting provides the Heroine with a gold ³key², an ingot to a safe deposit box in a Zurich Bank. The Safe Deposit box holds the major clue. Au Secours! Non, this cannot be! Dan Brown my hero has taken from another book! Ah but wait! There is more mon ami!
In ³DaVinci Code²: The Quest all this time involves a secretive brotherhood (Priory of Scion) with a battling relationship with the Vatican headed by a character - a man of the cloth who believes the Catholic Church has strayed and that his brotherhood's way is the true faith. In ³DaVinci Legacy²: The Quest all this time involves a secretive brotherhood (Elect Brotherhood of St. Peter) with a battling relationship with the Vatican headed by a character - a man of the cloth who believes the Catholic Church has strayed and that his brotherhood's way is the true faith.

Stop no more! My faith has been shaken!
Sadly there is more but I will spare you with only one more revelation.
In DaVinci Code: the Questıs documents show proof the church has conducted a spin campaign to smear a female figure in order to support the male-domination of the church. The Heroine eventually comes to understand a connection between herself and the symbol for the Goddess and the quest concludes without the prize of the ³Grail² and the idea that materialism is not important, but that the mystery and faith are the real prize.
In Daughter of God: the Questıs documents show proof the church has conducted a spin campaign to smear a female figure in order to support the male-domination of the church. The Heroine eventually comes to understand a connection between herself and the symbol for the Goddess and the quest concludes without the prize of the Grail and the idea that materialism is not important, but that the mystery and faith are the real prize. There are many many more similarities but for the sake of my electronic quill pen I will spare you but send you on an indepth journey to Lewis Perdueıs website which has religiously documented his literary quest to protect his works of art. www.davincilegacy.com
Go! Fly like the wind! ³ They² are waiting in the wings so you will not see the secrets revealed!
In parting I will leave you with this. Could it be the plot lines of DaVinci Code show the exact same plot lines, devices and details written in ³DaVinci Legacy² by Lewis Perdue twenty years earlier in 1983? One has to wonder how many mystery stories use the same device of gold ³keys² hidden in the back of master paintings on wood that unlock a crucial clue to Templar secrets at Zurich banks. A bit too coincidental in my book - oui?

In the end, read the books yourself. But for me, Dan Brownıs halo as a shining figure of a best selling intellectual author has lost his luster, perhaps before likening himself to his admired scholar character in his books. Will he be escorted out of the courtroom in the same manner the character in his book Teabing was carried away by the police ? Alas whatever the verdict, Dan Brown now only takes on the faint shine of the yellow highlighter his wife used to mark other authorıs books for him and his own original work turns out to be as flat as crepe. Fini.

Seattleıs largest Mystery on Capitol Hill
a gold mine, a hidden tunnel - talking with a ghost of Seattleıs romantic past.

The story goes...

The year was 1939.

The place was Broadway near what is now the Deluxe Grill, Seattleıs first post-prohibition bar. A tall thin dark haired man, well dressed that loved the company of women frequented the speakeasies of Seattle and gambled. He wore a cowboyıs hat, always rolled up his sleaves and some say he looked like the inventor Tesla. He would light up a Lucky Strike cigarette outside before he went into the stately building. A building built by the active Womenıs Century Club. He would smile thinking how ironic that it was Seattleıs most decadent location and knowing he was a part of making it decadant. Smoking was a habit he picked up during World War I. He recalled for a moment a memory of the war when he fought on the front lines of St. Clair, France Platoon 45. He no longer wanted to be straight laced. He wanted to be bad, to live, to forget the horrors of war.

He would walk into the bar, and forget all these memories. Wine, women and song and eventually he would work himself downstairs to the back rooms where the gambling took place. If he won a fair amount he would take his winnings and his favorite girl to the the Sorrento hotel for dinner in his new car. He liked activity, the baudier the better. Never mind the proper women's club next door with new mayor of Seattle Bertha Landes always asking nosy questions. He was handsome and well off and the women liked him. He particularly liked one laughing blonde - she was his favorite.

It is said his name was Peter Alexander Dunnovitch or something close to this name. His surname was Americanized He went by Alexander and he was likely Russian or French or Polish or perhaps a combination of all three. He lived off and on at hotels and didnıt mind taking some risks. He gambled well and perhaps too well because he disappeared one day without a trace. The story goes Peter won a gold claim from his business partners. Perhaps a foolish bet on the part of his partners, perhaps he had too much of the gin that was free flowing after prohibition.

A piece of paper worth a small fortune Peter tucked into a small grey cashbox. His box. It was in his accounting room. The room where he counted in private all his winnings and tucked them away from prying eyes. The small box contained his most precious items. His military papers, a handful of rough gems and diamonds. He would carefully replace the cash box behind the brick in the wall. Nobody could tell it was there. He didnıt trust his partners. He had just enough time to do this before he went back upstairs. It was late and his partners would meet him upstairs in the back room and start an argument. His partners would accuse him of cheating - it was all just an excuse because they had no intention of him leavin with their gold claim. They had a knife in hand and in despiration stabbed him in the left side of the chest. Nobody would hear him as he lost consciousness. He would then be dragged downstairs. Down because out the backdoor was the Womenıs Century Club (now the Harvard Exit) and out the front door was the busy street and bar. There was nowhere left to go but down.

Peter didnıt die right away, he bled to death over the next few hours. The room got dark and Peter felt his body get cold. He didnıt want to go, he loved life too much. He fought in World War I and this wasnıt the way to go - not in some gambling back room. His partners thought to themselves what to do with a body? There was nowhere to bury it and there was alot of blood. Everybody knew Peter and there would be questions. The floor was a cement slab so wall the body up. Quick before the body decomposes. Thatıs how they could get away with cementing a new wall. Yet it was alot of work so they finished it off as a ledge running the length of the inside wall. The bloody weapon was buried and cemented into a hole in the floor near the ledge. They would close off the room and say it was under construction and later make it a grocery store. Nobody would ask questions. Nobody because the police could easily be paid off. A couple nuggets of gold, no questions. He was always in and out so family would not notice his absence right away.

The story goes the room became a variety of businesses over the years. Angelıs grocery store, a Hadassa clothing store, a French cultural center and finally a Mystery museum. Unusual things would happen. Books would fall over for no reason, the closet door would close by itself. They made his favorite room the womenıs restroom. Damn. The director asked him to stay out. She sounds just like Bertha Landes.

Finally a clairsentient would finally stop in and be someone to talk to. Relief. A blonde would stop in - his favorite and he would caress her hair. He still loved women. The story goes there is a tunnel in the building connecting with the Harvard exit. Bricks were knocked out of the brick wall and a dirt tunnel dug. Remnants of the prohibition bootlegging days.
Questions arise. Why is Peter around? What is keeping him there for over sixty years. Is he still searching for his gold? Cashing in on the gold mine that he was never able to realize? Revenge on his murders? The story goes he wants the cash box found and the claim given to his nieces who are still in the Seattle area near Ballard. Peter wants to be cremated and buried in a location with a mountain view. Rest, rest at last.

This story is not in the newspapers or documented anywhere else because its related by this mysterious man himself as a ghost to clairsentient Chantelle Valentine La-Voire and other sensitives.
That is...if you believe.

Haunted Activity
In the darkness of night in remote Alaska, Peter Bevis, a sculptor from Fremont Washington and the salvager who brought the Kalakala home to Seattle, recalls hearing the voices of laughing women. He relates how workers saw a pile of burned parchment paper on the floor of one of the decks only to discover the date was the anniversary of a drowning and footsteps that were seen in the snow on a deck leading nowhere. Indeed, some of the most active paranormal activity of mysterious lights seen dancing inside has been recorded on film by a Seattle Tacoma ghost research group - A.G.H.O.S.T.
Cursed, blessed, haunted, sensitives say she is running the show.
Has there been evidence in the past of unusual activity? Engineers said she protested leaving Seattle by blowing a piston when she was sold in 1968 and current activities may indicated she is influencing her future.

Dudley Doright vs. Snively Whiplash

Peter Bevis

Peter Bevis became a hero when he salvaged the Kalakala from Alaska after working on her for three years along with many volunteers. He first fell in love with her in 1984 after his shipping boat passed her by many times. As a sculptor he loved her art deco curves and he saw the beauty beyond her rust and dirt and that day it is said he stood on her deck and proclaimed ³KALAKALA, your coming home!² He removed plants and dirt and debris and brought her into Seattle with an escort of boats to a cheering crowd of thousands. For five years Peter Bevis and volunteers spent hundreds of hours renovating yet high moorage costs and bankruptcy finally necessitated the sale and auction of the Kalakala. In 2004 she was sold to a new owner Stephen Rodrigues who spent the next four months trying to find moorage. The Makah Native American Indian Nation honored her and initially welcomed Rodrigues with open arms and free moorage. A small town of around 700 there were only estimated twenty new in town to welcome her to Neah Bay.

Did Rodrigues treat her right?
Her new owner tied her to a dock in which she couldnıt hold her moorage due to rough surf and weather. He towed her out a ways and then according to the people at Neah Bay he just left her. No repair or restoration was started even after five months.

Broken Promises?
The handful of jobs Rodrigues promised to the Makah Indians never materialized over the next five months and has resulted in the Makahıs suing concerning this broken agreement and pier damage.

Investor Beware
Newspaper articles started reporting Rodrigues numerous iradic comments to sink her stating ³he would be forced to sink her² if he couldnŒt garner $500,000 in funds from selling her movie rights on ebay. Idle threats? Steve Rodrigues stated on July 30th he was dissolving his Kalakala foundation in the following week and then adamantly denied the statement the next day.

Mysterious Makahs
Archeological digs have shown the Makahs have been in the area for over 4,000 years if not longer. The Kalakala is just a small adventure in their long history and they remain calm and dignified in contrast to Rodriguesıs outbursts. Despite what happens to the Kalakala, a recent visit to the areaıs museum, hotel and cafe along side the Olympic Peninsulaıs Neah Bay showed the area is indeed the beginning of the world. Neah Bay and Cape Flattery is considered to be one of the most beautiful pristine mystical places in the state of Washington and at least for the time being may be a personıs last chance to see Kalakala with her lights dancing on the waves.

Dave Louthan - Mad Cow Killer takes the USDA by its Bull Horns

Dave Louthen presenting in Seattle and testifying before California State Senate Feb. 24, 2003

"The most accurate first hand account I have heard so far on the mad cow discovery. It has implications for almost all of our food supply" - Michael Jones

Mad Cow Mysteries Solved Dave Louthan - Mad Cow Killer has the USDA by its Bullhorns
by Charlette LeFevre and Philip Lipson,
Seattle Museum of the Mysteries 3/9/04

On Saturday March 6th, 2004 Dave Louthan, the man who killed the first mad cow in the United States gave his first public presentation in Seattle after testifying before Washington and California State legislatures. Dave Louthan after 4 and a half years in the beef industry is speaking out now publicly as a mad cow whistle blower and crusader for safe beef to anyone who will listen. Dave related information in a two and a half hour question and answer session in front of a large crowd of how he remembers details of the mad cow Holstein, what happened in the aftermath of the mad cow discovery, how the slaughterhouse, veterinarian and inspectors reacted in the aftermath, huge discrepancies in the inspection reports and how the USDA agents dubbed "Men in Green" intimidated him. Dave also related the conditions of animals in slaughterhouses, how they are identified and where he believes the beef industry is headed. In one of the most graphic descriptions since Upton Sinclair's 1906 "The Jungle", Dave Louthan is giving the public the truth about the mad cow case, the slaughter industry and giving the answers to one of the most troubling issues to face the consumer.
________________________

Talking Texan
Dave Louthan told how he had been hauling cows for years on the West Coast and how he picked up his job at Vernıs in Moses Lake. Dave prided himself on being a fast and efficient worker. He related the media got it wrong when they said he enjoyed killing. Dave really meant he is a physically active guy and enjoyed the physical challenge of processing. Dave actually saw himself as more of a humanitarian - the person who puts the cows out of their misery - indeed with the majority of cows that came in as suffering downers. Dave stated "90% of the cows we did were downers". Dave stated he is an animal lover having horses, mules and all sorts of pets.

The Sacred White Cow

She was known as Tag no. 6810 M2229095, kill # 35 on Dec. 9, 2003. A Holstein from the Sunny Dene Ranch in Mabton Washington. To some the death of this one cow has taken on a sort of sacred martyrdom. Her death launched a Congressional criminal investigation and clinched a downer law animal rights groups had been trying to get passed for years. Indeed her death was to spare hundreds of thousand if not millions of animals from inhumane suffering. Most papers did not report that this was an all white cow and that is one reason why Dave specifically recalled the cow in addition to the the unusual circumstances that day. Dave recalled the Holstein as a "frilly farmer's cow" a "friendly cow" because he had the belief that the more a cow has black in it the meaner it is. He recalled the cow because it had a small amount of dried specks of blood on her tail due to recent calving but given her seemingly healthy condition was wondering why she was included in this batch of downers. From the information the hauler Randy Hull related, Dave believed the farmer brought her in along with other downers because she was "spent" and the farmer just didn't want to bother bringing her in to a sale lot. Dave relates the on-site vet Rodney Thompson was there the entire time, before during and after the kill and there would have been no reason to call her a downer. Dave recalled the hauler using a "hot-shot" or electrical prod of 20 thousand volts on the Holstein because she wouldn't step off the truck. (another indication this cow was a walker). Dave said sheepishly he has used a prod before in the rain and it had enough voltage ito knock a man down so he knew the cow was fixing to run. Dave was tired and he didnıt want her bolting to the back of the trailer stomping on the others so he killed her right there. He took a sample and continued his work. Dave also remembered the cow well because he recalled the vet Rodney was mad at him for killing the Holstein "out of turn". Dave related they had an agreement to kill downers first so the vet who has to temp and test downers as opposed to visually inspecting the walkers can leave early for the day. Dave related vet Rodney Thompson lived two hours away.

The Blowup
On Dec. 26th Dave related the place was full of FDA and USDA inspectors all looking over his shoulder. He said the the atmosphere in the work area was so tense it was like everyone knew there was a bomb outside waiting to explode. Dave thought after the mad cow announcement for sure production

would stop and the USDA would have to develop procedures for testing but instead work continued. Dave was angry at the inspectors looking over his shoulder and apparently intimidating him so after a while he finally looked at them and said ³This is not going to be an Area 51 bull**** - Iım not going to do it.² Dave also related and quoted how the in-house USDA inspector supervisor Don West made comments to Dave on Dec. 26th and is the reason why Dave believes adamantly the documents released by the USDA were forged to imply the cow was a downer.

No More Downers

A cow killer testifying on behalf of cows? Dave had glowing remarks for Susan Michaels of Pasado Safe Haven who brought him to testify in February regarding the Downer Law to WA State Legislature. Dave related how he had witnessed some cows limbs were literally torn from them as they are hauled. He also related the expressions on some of the Representatives faces when he testified. The Downer law which humane groups have been trying to get passed for years which makes it illegal to transport or accept a downer passed 64-0 on Feb. 13 2004 in Washington State. Ironic how a cow killer finally tipped and secured legislation that prevents one of the industries largest cruelty issues. Farmers are now required to humanely euthanize downers and bury them on their farms.

Lend me your ear
Dave also related with obvious disdain how he had seen ranchers take out their pocket knifes and cut off the ears of cows while they were still alive to reuse the tag - saving them $1.50. When questioned if these tags aren't supposed to be reused as each cow should have independent tags for tracking, Dave commented that ranchers don't care, that the main purpose of tags was really identification to pay the farmer. This brings up the question if this is the reason why the other suspect Canadian cows couldn't be found and if the system could currently catch another case of mad cow or e-coli contamination. Dave has little confidence in the system.

Unexplained Happenings
Mystery of the Missing Cows?

In the following days after the first mad cow case and after Dave contends he was the only employee of eleven at Vern's who was permanently "laid off" Jan. 5th, he recalled seeing truck loads of well looking dairy cows coming in to Vern's as he lives right across the street. Dave claimed the dairies got scared and suddenly started disposing of their cows.

Mystery on the Killing Floor
Dave Louthan pointed out several major discrepancies in the USDA veterinarian's kill sheet documentation sent out to the press from the USDA office. Dave claims it was fabricated and believed he witnessed its fabrication Dec. 26th when he went to the vet Rodney Thompson's office and Rodney was "writing like a madman". It would not be unusual to be stressed out if you were the vet on duty during the nation's first mad cow case but Dave worked alongside Rodney for years and typified him as a man who was calm even while things were hectic around him. Dave pointed out it was unusual he had papers all over his desks and stressed to this point. If indeed the paper work was proper and available it should have been a simple procedure to pull the records and copy. Dave recalled Rodney pointing at the paper on his desk and saying ³ Œif she wasn't a downer then why do I have her on the suspect sheet?ı² Another major discrepancy in the USDA issued document as Dave pointed out is the signature line on the form where the vet would have signed off is missing. Dave pointed out the kill sheet also shows the ear tags out of sequence which is "something the government just doesn't do" indicating the agency always puts the ear tags on in sequence and is a good indication the sheet was likely hurriedly put together. Dave also points out the notation "unable to get temp" record was a waving red flag as the process was mandatory. Dave related that if the Holstein had been a downer and even if the thermometer had broken they would have stopped processing until someone ran out and bought another thermometer. Vets use the common standard bathroom thermometer. Dave contends there was never a situation where a temperature could not have been taken and contends the cow was never a downer from the beginning. The Holstein was a walker - a "good enough a walker to outrun everyone in this room".

Dave related the temp is crucial in determining if a cow is acceptable to be condemned and you ³never bring in a downer unless its temped² According to Dave if the temperature is over 103 degrees- its considered diseased or if its below 97 degrees, its dying and is condemned.

The Missing Veterinarian
Dec. 26th 2003 was the last time Dave Louthan saw vet Rodney Thompson in his office when USDA and FDA investigators were swarming around the area. Dave like everyone else returned to work after the new year and just figured he was sipping margaritas somewhere in the South Pacific. Thompsonıs house was boarded up and Dave reported that even the New York Times and Washington Post had hired private detectives to find him. UPI reported USDA spokespeople had kept vet Rodney Thompson sequestered from the press and had refused to provide information about him. Recent reports indicate that the veterinarian is back at Vernıs but is not talking to the press. The Government Reform Committee is looking into allegations of altered documents and Rodney Thompson may soon have to answer why four other witnesses - the Sunny Dean farmer, hauler Randy Hull, Dave Louthan and Tom Ellestad contradict his report the cow was a downer or why he didnıt have a thermometer. Rodney Thompson may also have to answer allegations that he received a three pay grade increase to keep him silent immediately after the mad cow incident.

³Men in Green²

Soon after Dave was laid off - what he calls ³permanently laid off² on Jan. 5th, he wanted to find out who cared about safe beef and started e-mailing to over 200 USDA inspectors - one at time. He chuckled he wasnıt aware of cut and paste at the time, but he is now. Soon after he got a visit from a USDA agent - a large one who repeatedly asked him to get into his green SUV and Dave only agreed after he asked if he had a gun and the agent verified by opening his coat. The agentıs first question Dave contends was ³ıhow much do you want? Œ² Dave contends these agents were never interested in investigating or his information but in keeping him silent. Dave got the agents name and cell phone number and afterwards called every journalist he could find regarding this incident. The NY Times verified the agent had visited Dave and indeed two agents showed up later to get him to sign disclaimer documents regarding the first visit absolving the agent. Dave refused to sign any documents and kept the papers and a log of their names. From then on Dave said he has seen them less but he has shown others the cars parked across the street, usually now with two men sitting inside. The cars have changed to other colors but Dave still believes they are out there. Dave related he never receives a phone call from these USDA agents as a normal investigator would inquire, just intimidating visits.

The Jungle Revisited
What is Back Door?

The white Holsteinıs name was listed on the slaughterhouseıs kill sheet as ³Sunny Dene BD². Dave Louthan described what the BD notation on the kill sheet meant. It stands for Back Door. Dave Louthan described how testing for BSE would have started earlier but they spent over half a year inventing the term "back door" cow so the slaughterhouse could skirt an existing contract with grocers in which they all signed they would not take downers. The term "back door" essentially meant any cow brought in through the back door, downer or walker. Dave relates because he killed the holstein walker outside to save some time before she trampled the other cows he could technically take the BSE testing. It was a ³fluke² she was even tested at all. Vern's didn't start testing for BSE until Oct. of 2003. Recent articles show UPI had to use the freedom of information act to show that Vern's didn't test BSE for the first seven months of 2003.

Doing the Right Thing
Dave has talked before WA State Congress, CA State Senate, presented in Seattle, talked before Japanese TV, public access, and has talked on numerous radio programs but his campaign is far from over. He says he won't stop until he gets to D.C. and they start listening. Until then he will continue banging his trash can lids.
